About Us - Vision and Goals 2008

Vision:   Celebrating and proclaiming the inclusive love of
Jesus Christ in and through the Episcopal Church.

Goals:
  • Reconciliation within the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin
  • That all activities of Remain Episcopal may be turned over to the duly constituted Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin

Objectives:
  • To support and encourage welcoming communities of faith throughout the diocese.
  • To support activities such as rebuilding and planting congregations, education on the Episcopal ethos, and sharing faith stories.
  • To assist legal counsel to preserve and protect the Episcopal Diocese of
         San Joaquin.
  • To raise sufficient funds in 2008 to accomplish these objectives.

Who we are - History

Remain Episcopal in the Diocese of San Joaquin (located in central California) was formed in 2003 in response to clergy and laity in the Diocese of San Joaquin concerned that this diocese was moving toward eventual separation from The Episcopal Church. From our beginnings, as is true now, our focus has been on continuing the Diocese of San Joaquin as part of The Episcopal Church.

Members of Remain Episcopal represent a spectrum of theological perspectives, and hold differing opinions on the actions of The Episcopal Church. We welcome a diversity of opinions and boldly declare that remaining united overrides varying opinions on this issue. We are committed to being an Episcopalian expression of the body of Christ, and believe that schism is not the direction God would have us take. We support honest debate over the issues and a willingness to stay in communion even when we disagree.

The Remain Episcopal organization consists of an elected executive committee (click here), a membership (click here to join), and a support constituency. Our members and officers are both ordained and lay Episcopalians.

Remain Episcopal activities include regional meetings held in various areas; in 2007, Remain Episcopal will conduct quarterly diocesan-wide events in various locations. Our first meeting was held on February 10, 2007, in Lodi, and attracted about 330 participants. (click here)  Watch this site for announcements of future quarterly events. (click here) Remain Episcopal officers and members are also available to support individuals and groups who wish to remain within the Episcopal Church but whose parishes appear to be preparing to separate from The Episcopal Church.

We invite any of you, Episcopalian or sympathetic friend from wherever you live, to support our ministry. We welcome your news and information! If you wish to share news, receive information, contribute to church unity or make a comment, please contact us at contact@remainepiscopal.org.
